President's Message for June

Member Appreciation
First, on behalf of the SoCal chapter board of directors, I want to publicly thank Chun-Yao Hong (Jeffrey) for his service as our chapter secretary. Jeffrey demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment in his role. He made significant contributions that have allowed our chapter to grow and succeed. Regretfully, Jeffrey had to step down from his position. We will miss him very much but wish him all the best as he engages in other endeavors.
Fortunately, I am very pleased to announce that Amanda Cotter has agreed to step in to the role of chapter secretary at this time. Thank you Amanda!
Annual Student Night
This event took place May 25, 2016 at El Torito restaurant in Santa Monica and the many students and GAPNA members who attended enjoyed a wonderful evening with great food and networking. We appreciate the financial support of our sponsors from Davita/Health Care Partners, Gerinet/Health Essentials, and Caremore. Also, recruiters from these organizations met with students and provided excellent recommendations to ensure success as they transition into the NP job market. In addition, students appreciated the wise advice shared by currently practicing NPs in attendance.
March Madness

Prizes were given to our southern California chapter for winning the March Madness competition! We have added 12 new members and had 17 current members renew their membership between February 15th and April 15th. Prizes awarded to our chapter include:

• A free booth at GAPNA's Annual Conference- this should be loads of fun as we represent some well-known features of southern California living in a format for a photo shoot for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter that can be enjoyed by all chapters.
• One free registration to the Annual Conference- UCLA student Paul Boy was thrilled to win during the raffle at Student Night.
• March Madness trophy- So Cal chapter is the first winner listed on the trophy for this annual event which will be displayed in our booth.

Annual Conference

Our next chapter meeting will take place during the annual conference in Phoenix, AZ in September. We will send a meeting notice prior to the meeting with more details about meeting date & time and location. Also, the meeting notice will be posted on the communication bulletin board near the conference registration desk.

Besides enjoying the many workshops, excellent speakers, posters, exhibits, join in on the fun events that support the GAPNA Foundation. There will be a pool-side party with fashion show that you can win!

Several of our chapter members have been nominated this year for GAPNA Excellence Awards and we wish them well when winners are announced at the conference.

Get Involved

Now is the time to consider getting more involved with our growing chapter by running for the open President-Elect position. Current President-Elect, Karen Shore, will take over for me as President at the meeting in Phoenix. The current BOD will help you over the next year to "learn the ropes" during the monthly BOD tele-conference meeting.
